Activities in and around Rye and the surrounding countryside of Northiam
The Best of 1066 Country
Whichever Froglets Cottage you choose, you will be in the perfect location for a weekend treat or relaxing holiday away from the pressures of modern life, and yet within easy reach of lovely Wealden Villages, atmospheric Romney Marsh and the lovely old town of Rye with its quaint cobbled streets, antique shops and many historic attractions.
Our properties are located at Morley Farm, outside the historic village of Northiam, chosen by Elizabeth 1 as a suitable resting place on her way to Rye, and who enjoyed is so much that she left a pair of her slippers as a present to her hosts! Enjoy kayaking on the River Rother or take a boat trip up to lovely Bodiam Castle. The famous East Sussex Steam trains run from Northiam to either Bodiam or the pretty town of Tenterden with its charming wide tree lined streets and wonderful shops.
Northiam is also the home of Great Dixter House and world famous Gardens whilst nearby there are many castles, National Trust properties, Vineyards and of course the town of Battle, site of the famous 1066 battle and the fishing town of Hastings, with its net sheds and seafood restaurants.
Rye town has many beautifully preserved medieval, Tudor and Georgian buildings, many open to the public as restaurants or inns, where the past days of smuggling and pirates are brought alive. Further historical attractions within the town include the Rye Castle Museum, Ypres Tower, the Rye Heritage Centre, which takes you back 700 years, and the Landgate and Town Walls. The former Augustinian Friary in cobbled Conduit Hill now houses a pottery and the unusual range of shops includes book shops, antique shops and galleries all of which attract many return visitors.
The countryside surrounding Froglets Cottages is very beautiful, ranging from marshland, sand dunes, vast sandy beaches at Camber, to Wealden rolling hills, offering numerous walks, ancient inns and pretty villages.
Froglets Cottages ….. truly special places to stay!
